31 subscribers, 11 taste tests, 8 customers: these are our numbers! But let me refine this:
2 of the 31 subscribers are me and Rachel (my co-founder!).
9 of the 11 Reset Bar taste tests were done by my friends, in person (2 were mailed out)
All 8 of the customers are not yet customers, but rather, people who have indicted purchase intent, and said “Yes, I’d like to buy some … when you’re ready.”
But still, I’m celebrating these numbers!
Why am I sharing this?
Because I like transparency, and it keeps me accountable. But even more so, I believe this is the right thing to do from a business perspective.
Imagine if your favourite brand or creator shared their behind the scenes and their numbers. How would that make you feel?
It would make you feel connected. It would give you insight into how to start a business. It would educate and entertain you. (This is what I will do for you with this newsletter, too, btw).
Example: Mid Day Squares. They share vlog style videos and behind the scenes ranging from production issues, to product milestones, to their co-founder sharing how she burnt out. Through this they’ve built a loyal following, and have sold 44 million bars.
Another: bbno$ recently shared how much he makes per 1 million streams on Spotify. (Answer: $5-6K per day). The comments were full of people applauding him, saying how humble he is, how he’s just a guy, he’s the GOAT.
Transparency — and authenticity — builds connection, and connection builds community.
And community builds brands.
(If you’ve been following me on social media for a while, you’ll likely know that I’m big on community and run a free vegan discord).
I feel obliged to say: it’s not all about the numbers (and the money). Yes, it’s important. We’re building a business. Money is part of it. But my true overarching goal in life has always been to help people (actually bbno$ said the same thing - he helps people through music).
I want to show you how much you can transform your life through mindfulness, and how you can be that best 👏version👏 of 👏yourself👏. I want to show you how you can truly enjoy eating a treat, without that diet culture voice in the back of your head. And I want to show how you can do this all while enjoying food that’s good for your body, and your mind.
This is weekly update #1.
Sometimes it will be numbers-focused, like today. Sometimes it will just be a quick “Hey, this is what Rachel and I have been up to lately.” Sometimes it will be details about a product launch and discounts.
If you’re in Canada, and want a sample, reply to this email or comment below.
(And to the 2 of you on the West Coast who would like a sample, I haven’t forgtten you! I was waiting for more ingredients to arrive today).
Thanks for reading!
